Building public speaking skills in Stowmarket

In March 2025 Halo Service Solutions invited West Suffolk Toastmasters to bring a demo meeting to their offices in Stowmarket and we leapt at the chance. We not only found a warm welcome but fantastic facilities which mixed professionalism and fun – just like our club meetings.

After some consideration we decided to move the entire club to this fast growing town, with Halo as our base. Membership has been growing steadily with new members quickly taking on the challenge of delivering speeches and meeting roles every fortnight, but not before they feel ready of course. As with all clubs our more experienced members have known, it’s quickly becoming a strong community and we’re here to support each other and have fun while we learn.

Joining a Toastmasters International club gives all members the opportunity to work on their personal growth. Public speaking has always been a core of this but it takes more than a speaker to make a public speaking meeting, it takes organisation, inter-personal communication and leadership. There’s a tried and tested education program to guide and support us too.

Members come from a variety of backgrounds, some have been in Toastmasters for several years and some a few months. There’s no level of experience or standard that new members are expected to come along with, just a desire to develop at their own pace and a willingness to be supportive of others. You might see an excellent speaker and someone masterfully running the meeting, but frequently, if you ask, they’ll tell you how nervous they were at their first meeting. Other people join confident and proficient but still knowing there’s always a better way, and it can be fun too.

An open meeting at West Suffolk Toastmasters is one of the best times to come along and discover what we do, meet current members and ask questions. There’ll be an opportunity for some guests to take part in our 2 minute talk section, but if you’d rather sit back, watch, and take it all in, that’s fine too. And of course, we won’t charge you a penny for the meeting.
Register and let us know you’ll be there at our open meeting on 20th May using the button below
